You Won't Guess The Name Of Melania's Shirt

Presidential debates aren't exactly red carpet events, though dressing for success is incredibly important. So too is having your family look polished and professional. The Trumps and Clintons all looked stylish as can be for the second presidential debate on Sunday. One eye-catching outfit turned more heads than others, and not just because of how it looks — Melania Trump's Gucci shirt has a surprising name. And you'll never guess what it is.

The model and potential first lady donned a $1,100 "Pussy-Bow" shirt from the designer's Pre-Fall 2016 collection. According to online retailer Net-a-Porter, "Pussy-bow shirts are one of Gucci's signature silhouettes." Featuring a massive bow loosely resting on the front of a blouse, it's a style that was wildly popular in the 1950s but appears to have experienced a recent resurgence in the fashion world. The Trump campaign has denied that Trump's choice in outfit was a sly aside in the face of leaked audio footage featuring lewd comments made by her husband. It's hard not to wonder what Trump must've been thinking when she picked out the outfit, given her background in high fashion.

If you've blocked out the obscenities Donald Trump uttered that would make Melania's "pussy-bow" shirt controversial, here's a refresher: on Friday, The Washington Post released audio footage from 2005 in which the Donald brags about being able to do whatever he wants while famous, essentially saying that he can't control himself when around women and that he would "grab them by the p*ssy." He's basically condoning sexual assault. Understandably, his comments were enough of an issue to cause fellow Republicans to not only disavow him for it but begin to un-endorse him. Trump issued an apology on Saturday shortly after midnight, yet his words dogged him all the way into Sunday night's debate.

Melania's statements about the audio footage had her in full support of her husband, though she did condemn his crude language. "I hope people will accept his apology, as I have, and focus on the important issues facing our nation and the world," Melania said. A "pussy-bow" shirt could either be construed as a bizarre show of solidarity for Trump or a small issue of little importance compared to what was discussed on the debate stage at Washington University in St. Louis.

For what it's worth, it appears that Melania also wore accompanying straight-leg pants made from the same material and the exact same eye-popping fuchsia color. Typically paired with a blazer, the pants alone cost $1,300. The pants have no suspect name tied to them.

Not that it's a big deal, in the face our country's problems.
