Actress, producer, and book club founder Reese Witherspoon is preparing to dip her big toe into publishing. A Reese Witherspoon lifestyle book is coming soon from boutique imprint Touchstone. Simon & Schuster U.K. will handle publication of the as yet untitled book abroad. Reese Witherspoon's lifestyle book is currently slated for release sometime in 2018.
Witherspoon, a Louisiana native, plans to center her upcoming title in Southern charm and aesthetic. Her lifestyle brand, Draper James, has achieved moderate success in that niche. Still, as Vanity Fair points out, "[g]lorifying the South" can be a tricky sell.
In 2014, California native Blake Lively's lifestyle website, Preserve, published an unthinkable photo shoot celebrating the Antebellum South and, by extension, white supremacy. We're hoping Draper James' success extends to Reese Witherspoon's lifestyle book without controversy.
All worries aside, it's high time Witherspoon put her name on a book cover. Her production company, Pacific Standard, is responsible for some of the best book-to-film adaptations, including Wild and Gone Girl. Her Instagram-based book club has readers flipping pages in Neil Gaiman's The Ocean at the End of the Lane, Jessica Knoll's Luckiest Girl Alive, and Kelly Williams Brown's Adulting, among other great titles.
Vanity Fair reports that Witherspoon's first book will be "a cross between memoir and ... Draper James," containing "personal essays about the people and places that influenced her" over the years. Look for Reese Witherspoon's lifestyle book at your favorite bookstore in 2018.
