What's Next For Shay Mitchell, Post-'PLL'?

by Allie Gemmill

With Pretty Little Liars' series finale fast approaching, it's not a surprise in the least that the cast is looking past the end date and on to their next big projects. For Shay Mitchell, what comes after Pretty Little Liars is just as much of a mystery as who A.D. is — but she's eager to solve this one. She's spent seven years playing a sleuth, so why not actually make it happen in a more fun fashion? In a recent interview with SELF magazine, Mitchell revealed that she's listening to her inner voice when it comes to figuring out her post-PLL mindset.

"My generation realizes that you can be multi-hyphenated. You don't have to stay in a box. Just because you started off in one industry doesn't mean you can't jump into another one. [...] The message I'm trying to put out there is that you can do whatever you want to do, and if I'm going to say that, I need to do it myself. If I want to become a singer and drop a single next month, I'm going to do that."

But while Mitchell has no concrete plans to embark on a singing career (despite my sincere belief she'd handle life as a musician with aplomb), she is in fact weighing a ton of options. While she has a sizeable social media following through her Instagram and Snapchat accounts, it seems that she is most pulled towards the visibility and malleability of her YouTube channel.

As such, it seems that if any place or project is to be her next golden ticket, it may just be the channel when she is currently testing out her skills in the kitchen and trading anecdotes with her friends over a glass of wine (sidenote: is Mitchell a near-perfect human being? Because I'm beginning to think so.) Mitchell, as she told SELF, intends to put together a workout series for her YouTube channel soon but that she would also be interested in writing a book, traveling, producing a television show and joining an action-film franchise. This woman is an unstoppable force of nature and I don't know whether to be jealous or exhausted just thinking about it. It's like she's literal #LifeGoals.

Additionally, Mitchell is gearing up for the horror film Cadaver , ostensibly kicking off the post-PLL phase of her life. While she quipped that she doesn't gravitate towards horror films, it's safe to say she's going to kill it. PLL has had plenty of heartstoppingly scary/all-out creepy moments; Mitchell can definitely use that to her advantage in her next project.
