Broad City fans, listen up: Abbi Jacobson's book is out now, and it's a beautiful blend of humor and heart that will have you flipping pages far past your bedtime. In Carry This Book, Jacobson imagines how famous people's purses look from the inside: Do they carry hot sauce everywhere they go? What iPhone apps do they download? What novel do they always have on hand? The book was illustrated, colored, and written in its entirety by Abbi Jacobson, and the finished product makes for a totally sweet, completely hilarious reading experience.
Jacobson is perhaps best recognized these days for her comedy and acting, but she actually began sharing her spirit and humor as a child through a different medium entirely: drawing. She studied fine arts and video production at the Maryland Institute College of Art before moving to NYC and embarking on an improv career that eventually introduced her to Ilana Glazer, her Broad City collaborator and co-star. Jacobson has already published two coloring books, but Carry This Book is her first semi-narrative project.
Carry This Book is available for purchase now, but if you want to see a sneak peek, scroll down to see the insides of Beyoncé and Hillary Clinton's bags, according to Abbi Jacobson:
Lady Gaga's love of Hillary Clinton is exceptionally well-documented, so it makes sense that Clinton would want to return the favor. And Clinton's love of hot sauce is really, really well-documented, so that seems like a no-brainer. My favorite part of this image, though, is that "History" book — a subtle nod to one thing we know to be true about Clinton: she always comes prepared, and she's changing the course of history right before our eyes.
Beyoncé, a Texas native, also loves hot sauce, though she prefers hers with a Tex-Mex flair. Naturally, she would keep a fashionable pair of sunnies on hand, and maybe an inspirational book. I especially love that Bey's daughter, Blue Ivy, and husband, Jay-Z, get a shout-out.
