Buckle Up For This 'Oregon Trail' Election Meme

by Kristie Rohwedder

Well, howdy there. How are you doing on this Tuesday evening? Er, let me rephrase that: How are your nerves, your heart, and your gut handling the stress-powered roller coaster that is the 2016 presidential election? Does your stomach feel so uneasy, unsteady, and uncomfortable you might go so far as to say you, I don’t know, feel like you are plopped atop a caulked wagon and floating across a raging river? If so, then I may have just the perfect Election Night meme to share with you. It is a meme that puts an all-too-relevant spin on the all-too-familiar (and all-too-dreaded) “You have died of…” screen from The Oregon Trail computer game. You know that screen, right? The one with the lime green ox and wagon graphic? Thanks to the internet, the text now reads, “You have died of 2016 Election.”

Sorry, cholera, dysentery, measles, typhoid, and snake bites. You had a good run. You really did. But there is a new sheriff in town. And by "sheriff," I mean "thing that will probably try to kill you on The Oregon Trail, hope you don't mind restarting the game." Is Duffy's Elixir any match for 2016 election? I suppose we will just have to wait and see.

It never...

...stops being...

...funny, terrifying, and sad.

And on that note, I suppose it's time to try to go ford the nightmare river that is this election. (Come on, like I would actually caulk the wagon and float it. Everyone knows a caulked wagon flops over into the rapids more often than not. I spent too many hours playing The Oregon Trail to pull an amateur move like that.)
