Um, These Books Actually Come With Wine Attached

by Emma Oulton

Books and wine: name a more iconic duo. I'll wait. It's pretty much established by now that wine and literature is the greatest pairing of all time, and Italian company Librottiglia (a merging of the Italian words for "book" and "bottle") have decided to take this literally — by wrapping short stories around their mini-bottles of wine.

“Today we read books on computers, tablets and mobile phones,” explained the creators, Reverse Innovation. "Why not on a bottle of wine?" And you know what? I can't think of one good reason not to.

The beautiful bottles were designed specifically for the Matteo Correggia winery in Italy, and each story — be it a thriller or a comedy — was carefully chosen to match the characteristics of the wine. Each bottle will fill two glasses of wine, which is the perfect amount of time to sit back, relax, untie the rustic twine tying the story to your wine bottle, and go on a literary journey.

So far, the collection is all in Italian — but I can't imagine it will be long before someone follows suit over this side of the ocean. And if you're lucky enough to have a knowledge of the gorgeous Italian language, you can choose between a dry red paired with a sweet fable called "The Frog in the Belly," a rich red paired with the love story "I Love You. Forget Me," or a fresh and light white paired with the humorous mystery "The Murder." Spoiled for choice!

For the rest of us non-Italian speakers, we'll just have to make do with pairing our favorite books with wine from the local supermarket for a classic night in.
