Kid Cudi Thanks Kanye For His Support

by Daniela Cabrera

The tides turn quickly in the celebrity world and it can be difficult to even keep up with who's getting along. A few weeks ago Kid Cudi called out his mentor Kanye West, claiming he didn't his write his own music, amongst other things. West subsequently responded, but they soon seemed to make up again. Last month, the "Pursuit of Happiness" rapper checked in rehab for depression, and now, Cudi has posted a heartfelt thank you to West and many other friends and celebrities for their support during his tough time. While it's a nice message no matter how you look at it, it's especially meaningful now in the midst of West's hospitalization for exhaustion.

As a refresher, Cudi wrote on his Facebook on Oct. 4 that he checked himself into rehab for "depression and suicidal urges." He opened up about his struggles with mental health, and he was lauded for his honesty, especially in opening up about a topic that is still considered very taboo.

On Nov. 21, the same day that West was reported to be hospitalized, Cudi took to his Facebook to thank his friends and fans for their unwavering support throughout his treatment. He wrote,

"Thank You for opening your hearts and extending your love and support during a troubling time. I wanted to let yall know it meant the world to me. I have nothing but love for you. Words can't really express how much it made my heart glow. I look forward to better days. Feelin' great and brand new. Can't wait to run into each and everyone of you and deliver a big hug. Be ready!"

In the note he thanks a long list of his friends, including Travis Scott, Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, A$AP Rocky, Willow and Jaden Smith,Tegan and Sara, Zayn, Jussie Smollett and many, many more. I loved seeing such a diverse list of people mentioned, because it shows that the music world really came together and gave an artist the support he needed when faced with mental health issues. It also gives me a ray of hope in light of West's current situation.

After their apparent "feud," West brought Cudi onstage during his show in Sacramento on Nov. 19 for "Waves" and "Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1." Fans shared videos and photos of the the two friends embracing each other in a touching moment:

While we don't know what was shared between them then, it's clear that they felt close during this moment. And it is especially touching considering it was the last show before the remainder of the Saint Pablo tour was cancelled. Cudi maybe didn't know what was happening with West on the day he posted his thank you message, but this message is one that can offer hope to West as he probably is feeling overwhelmed at this point in his life. His close friend has proven that it's beneficial to step away to take time for yourself, and I have no doubt that Cudi will support West in the same way West supported him.
