'Poldark' Season 3 Will Be Here Soon

by Kayla Hawkins

Poldark Season 2 is currently wrapping up in the US, and the upcoming finale has Americans who can't get enough of the show's tall, dark, and handsome hero and his beloved Demelza already worrying about when Poldark will return for Season 3. Thankfully, one of the benefits of falling in love with a show from overseas is that its production schedule is already a little ahead of those of us in the USA. Not only was Poldark already greenlit for a third season, but those episodes are already underway. According to DigitalSpy, the series was spotted filming in Cornwall in early November 2016, while the second season was still in the middle of airing on PBS and had just come to an end on BBC One in the UK.

And Season 3 will be here before you know it. When Poldark returns, it will likely continue its established pattern of debuting on UK television first, while American audiences have to wait for a few weeks or months in order to see new episodes. It tends to take somewhere around six months for a season of Poldark to go from filming to air, so you can expect Poldark Season 3 to appear sometime in spring or summer 2017. That's not too bad, right?

When Season 3 does hit, fans will want to look out for some big cast. In addition to the actors who play Ross and Demelza, Digital Spy reports that Season 3 will feature "Heida Reed as Elizabeth, Jack Farthing as wicked George Warleggan, Ruby Bentall as Verity, Luke Norris as Dr Dwight Enys[,] Caroline Blakiston as Aunt Agatha [...] Gabriella Wilde as Caroline Penvenen and John Nettles as Ray Penvenen." One missing member of the cast is Phil Davis as Jud, so it's possible that he might meet a sad fate before Season 2 ends.

Also spotted on set were two new actors playing Demelza's brothers, Tom York and Harry Richardson, who will make their debut in Season 3. Additionally, the show is finally adding an impactful character from the book series it's based on: Hugh Armitage, played by Josh Whitehouse. As for Ross, DigitalSpy reports that in a statement, producer Debbie Horsfield explained, "Ross is older but not necessary wiser, and his recklessness sometimes costs him, and his loved ones, dear. We're in for a rollercoaster ride where the stakes have never been higher." That could mean that there will be more losses of characters like Francis, who died tragically during Season 2.

The cast reveals aren't the only reasons to get excited for Poldark Season 3, though. There's also a third season trailer that was released by the BBC recently that will stoke your excitement about the continuing story. The Season 3 premiere might feel like a long time away, but at least it's definitely coming back, so you don't have to worry about whether or not the show will be cancelled before it's revealed whether or not Ross is the father of Elizabeth's baby. The only thing you have to worry about now is staying patient while you wait for more Poldark episodes.
