The Taylor Swift 2017 Grammys Snub Is A Tiny One

by Rachel Simon

Like most awards shows, the Grammys tend to be a mixed bag when it comes to nominations. Just take the 2017 race, for instance. For all the nominations earned by Beyonce and Adele, artists like Kanye West and Chance the Rapper didn't make out nearly as well, and as expected, many fans are disappointed — especially those hurt by the Taylor Swift 2017 Grammys snub. Although Swift didn't put out a new album in the Grammy eligibility period, she did co-write a song that many people thought warranted a nod, the dance track "This Is What You Came For."

Sadly for fans, the song, written by Swift and Calvin Harris, didn't earn any nods from the 2017 list, despite the predictions of many. Yet while it's understandable that fans of Swift wish that she'd gotten a nomination for the song, it's really a relatively tiny snub. Remember, Swift wasn't eligible for any of the major Grammys categories this year, so she couldn't earn any honors for a major category like Album of the Year, a race where her absence would've been understandably upsetting to fans. While "This Is What You Came For" feasibly could've earned her a nod for songwriting alongside Harris, it's not as massive a snub as it could've been had Swift released her own material this past year and been left out of the competition for that.

Besides, I doubt her Grammy snub has Swift too upset, considering the 10 awards and 29 total nominations she's received from the Grammys over the course of her career. Sure, she might've liked to add another trophy onto her shelf, but I think she's doing OK with the many awards she already has plus the knowledge that despite its lack of Grammy nominations, "This Is What You Came For" was still a major success and a chart-topping hit.
