No More Paula Deen, Y'all

by Emma Goddard

Well it looks like we can finally say our hallelujahs and close the book on Paula Deen’s racist ways. After Deen experienced the loss of her shows on Food Network as well as her endorsement deals, Deen has also lost the restaurant she co-owned with her brother, Uncle Bubba’s Seafood and Oyster House. We’d say boohoo, but no one is actually sad about this.

After a grueling year having to listen to Deen admit that she used the N-word and also recalling that she found it “really impressive” when she attended a restaurant (somewhere in the south, of course) where the wait staff consisted entirely of middle-aged black men wearing white jackets and bow ties, we’re over it. The eye rolling is beginning to hurt and it’s a struggle to keep up with her ridiculous antics at this point.

The restaurant’s website currently reads “Thank you for 10 great years. Uncle Bubba’s is now closed.” Although we aren’t exactly surprised that Deen wasn’t able to keep her business alive after everything that has occurred, it came as a major shock to all of her employees who were reportedly never told that this decision was happening.

Although the posts have since been deleted from Uncle Bubba’s Facebook page, many employees took to the site to express their disbelief. “I’ve been water works all a.m.,” one employee wrote, according to Savannah Now. “I’ve worked there since I was 16. I woke up this a.m. to no job and no forewarning.” Of course, the page has also been deleted because Deen just can’t stand all that heat in the kitchen.

Deens’ younger brother explained they decided “to close the restaurant in order to explore development options for the waterfront property on which the restaurant is located,” according to a statement to the Key Group Worldwide. Awesome.

While we wish her employees had been given some warning and time to find new jobs, at least they can now say they've seen Deen’s true colors. I mean really, it’s like she didn’t realize, “Oh, some people might rely on these jobs for a living.”

I’m pretty sure everyone is banking on this being the final Paula Deen news that they ever have to hear, because no one actually wants her to redeem herself. She’s already done enough damage to herself, her family, and to our own emotional stability, so it’s about time she just calls it quits. There is truly no way that you can save yourself now, Deen. Losing trust everywhere since 2013. See you later, girl.
