Schumer & This 106-Year Old are Adorable

by Maitri Suhas

She's already been named one of GQ's Funniest Women Alive, but Amy Schumer has a soft side, too. In Tuesday's episode of Inside Amy Schumer, Schumer interviews another woman of magnitude —the charming Downing, who is a whopping 106-years-old but seems as vibrant as ever. Schumer's interview is surprisingly sweet, even though she tries to pull Downing into some inappropriate riffing.

"What's your favorite part about being 100? No condoms, right?," Schumer starts the interview in classic Amy fashion. They also talk about Twitter, the Great Depression, and have a very detailed conversation about drinking. Schumer also asks if Downing knows any eligible bachelors at the retirement home that she could set her up with, which Downing gets a kick out of.

This short interview gives us a little insight into Schumer's interest in just seeing how people work, and the interview makes us feel a little less anxious about aging, too, which reminds us of Schumer's inspiring and kick-ass speech at the Ms. Foundation Gala, where she spoke of her own struggles with self-confidence and finally reaching a place of inner peace and happiness.

I am a woman with thoughts and questions and shit to say. I say if I’m beautiful. I say if I’m strong. You will not determine my story — I will. I will speak and share and fuck and love and I will never apologize to the frightened millions who resent that they had it in them to do it.

She's not only a funny woman, she's a strong one, and we love her for it. We also love Downing, who was alarmed that after World War II, all the ladies were wearing pants.
