'Doctor Who' Gets Disneyfied

by Caroline Pate

Although Doctor Who is known as one of the world's longest-running science fiction shows, there's always been a huge element of fantasy about it — an element of wonder, of magic. Current showrunner Steven Moffat has taken this element even further with his interpretation of Doctor Who as a "dark fairytale."

So it's only natural, that (like Wicked ) Doctor Who would get Disneyfied. And artist Stephen Byrne has done just that with his Disney-fied version of the Doctors. All 13 Doctors are there (from the doomed one from "The Day of the Doctor" to the newest doctor who has yet to appear onscreen) as the "princes" for former companion Amy Pond. It's not exactly a literal interpretation of the Doctors, but it's a effervescent reinvention of the show that looks like a cross between Doctor Who and Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.

So, now we know what some Doctor Who characters would look like in the world of Disney, but what would Disney characters look like in the world of Doctor Who? We can't exactly draw it, but we did think of some Doctor Who soul mates to some of Disney's most famous characters...

Amy Pond — Ariel, The Little Mermaid

Clumsy and unorganized with a curious spirit? That sounds like our Amy. Not to mention all of that red hair. Plus, Ariel's motivations are just like those of a companion: she wants to see a "whole new world."

Rory Williams — Skinner, Ratatouille

As much as Rory wants to be the Prince Eric to Amy's Ariel, he's not exactly your typical prince. But he has a much more kindred spirit in lanky sous chef Skinner. Rory and Skinner may not always be able to save the day, but they have good hearts and a sweet, goofy charm.

Donna — Merida, Brave

Okay, they have the red hair in common. But while Merida and Donna may be a little rough around the edges and have tenuous relationships with their mothers, they both are fiercely independent and have a fighting spirit.

Jack Harkness — Flynn Ryder, Tangled

Jack Harkness is the striking image of a Disney prince: the white-teeth smirk, the chiseled jaw, the perfectly coiffed hair. But out of all the princes, Jack is most like Flynn — a bit of a rogue and an outlaw, someone who likes to fly solo. And who knows, maybe Flynn swings both ways too...
