We Should Really Let Shailene Play This Role

by Alanna Bennett

Well, this is a casting we could get behind under the right circumstances: Shailene Woodley wants to play Stevie Nicks. This accomplishes a couple of things: It's a chance for Woodley to let a bit of her wild child out on screen by playing a fringe-wearing rockstar, and (even more importantly) it'd being Stevie Nicks' life to the big screen. Ah, we want it. We want it badly.

There's no sign that this is actually a project in the making, sadly: Woodley just expressed her interest in the role in a recent interview with Women's Health:

I would love to play Stevie Nicks. She’s just such a fascinating woman who’s lived such a life — and is still living such a life. Her music was really profound for me in my life. [...] She is so fully herself, and undividedly herself. That in itself is such a powerful lesson to take in and be like, ‘wow.’ No one is going to be the next Stevie Nicks, and Stevie Nicks was [not] the next anyone. And, I think that’s such beautiful advice for all of us. You do you, we do we. She does she in such a beautiful way.

Given the right costuming and hair and makeup efforts, Woodley could probably pull off some resemblance to a young Nicks. Nicks has also expressed awareness that a major movie about her may one day come to fruition; she used to express interest in Reese Witherspoon taking on the role. Witherspoon seems to have aged past the opportunity, though, and Woodley's performances in movies like The Descendents and The Fault In Our Stars prove she's got chops. It'd be great to see her play a rock star, especially one as awesome as Nicks.
