HBO's 'Jonah From Tonga' Looks Amazing Already

Summer Heights High and Ja'mie Private School Girl should be enough to prove it: Chris Lilley is a comedic hit. That in mind, it's no surprise that the first trailer for Lilley's new series on HBO, Jonah From Tonga , is amazingly hilarious as well — it's just true to form for Lilley at this point, really.

If you're not familiar with Lilley's previous shows: In Summer Heights High (which originally hails from Australia but, thankfully, is broadcast on HBO) Lilley takes on characters that that are so far from who he actually is, it seems like it should be impossible for him to play them. Ja'mie, for instance, is a 17-year-old spoiled schoolgirl obsessed with boys, clothes, and fabulous parties; Jonah is a 13-year-old Tongan schoolboy who has behavioral issues at his school (in that he's astonishingly lewd every chance he gets) and often gets in trouble with the administration. Considering Lilley is a 39-year-old man, he shouldn't be able to play these characters, but he does — and well. Now, following his previous spinoff of the series focusing on Ja'mie, Ja'mie Private School Girl, Lilley is returning with another spinoff, this one titled Jonah From Tonga . It, as the name suggests, focuses on Jonah.

The series will consist of 6 episodes, each following Jonah as he's sent back to Tonga because he was expelled from his school in Sydney at the end of Summer Heights High. You can check out the trailer below — the series is set to premiere on HBO on August 8.
