Taylor Swift: Romper Evangelist

by Rosie Narasaki

Taylor Swift has done what I've always thought impossible: She's made a romper convert out of me.

I've been morally opposed (okay, maybe morally is too strong a word) to the item of clothing since they first had their major resurgence around five years ago. Suffice it to say, the trend has been around for a while, and I've never been a fan. In fact, I'd even go so far as to say I used to consider rompers an enemy of sorts — I can't even count how many times I've flipped through the racks at my favorite store, dismayed to find that the cute dress I'd been eyeing, was on closer inspection, a romper (the horror!).

"Why would they do that?" was my refrain during this dark period in my life. I'd turn to whomever had the misfortune shopping with me that day and say, "Look at this thing. Who would wear it?"

Well, thanks to my antibodies weakening over the course of extended onsie exposure, and the increasingly fashionable Taylor Swift, I'm quickly changing my tune. Swift's definitely having something of a style moment: her summer ensembles have made the route to and from her gym her personal runway, and her recent romper excursions are some of the best of the best. Three is, as they say, a trend, and here is the triplet of rompers that finally convinced me to buy my first one.

In Topshop

Bold and comfortable with a classic silhouette. I'm in love with her mustard yellow pumps, too.

In MINKPINK

Simple, with fun accessories — her heart-shaped crossbody bag and retro shoes kind of make the look.

In SUNO

Another delightfully graphic print elevated with a pop-of-color-injecting handbag.

Are you convinced? I am. After years of romper-hating, I'm finally in the market for a romper of my own. As long as I can steal Swifty's accessories, too.
