'How I Met Your Dad' May Be Happening After All

by Jenny Jaffe

Awesome news on the How I Met Your Dad front— amid swirling rumors that the much hyped How I Met Your Mother spinoff, which was greenlit and then abruptly cancelled, may be back in the works after all. Today, CBS chairman Nina Tassler confirmed that How I Met Your Dad is not entirely dead.

In fact, it's being reworked and re-cast.

According to Tassler's statement:

We want very much to stay in business with them. You make the best decision you can vis a vis casting, relative to the time of year. There's a lot going on during pilot season. And some things about 'How I Met Your Dad' worked and some things didn't. We'd love the opportunity to take another shot.

Honestly, I have no problem with this, especially if they're re-casting indie darling Greta Gerwig. I actually like Gerwig a lot, but I don't think this would have been the right vehicle for her. Not with so many awesome comedic actresses running around anyway. My choice? Rebel Wilson. With the accent, of course.

It would also be amazing if, unlike its predecessor, How I Met Your Dad had a person of color in its main cast (or, better yet, as its lead). Dare I dream for an entirely ethnically diverse cast? Perhaps even with LGBTQ characters? Because whether or not those are the changes being made, those are the changes CBS needs to make.

I do hope, however, that they keep Meg Ryan as the voice of the mom in the future. Who doesn't love Meg Ryan?
