Can They Just Stop Being Perfect Already?

by Lia Beck

If I tell you I have a Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie story for you, you're probably going to assume that it's about love, or charity, or selflessness, or any number of awesome things. And you're absolutely right in that assumption. This couple could easily be less-than-amazing people and everyone would still be excited about them because "Yay! Hot actors dating each other!" But yet, they are also extremely generous and caring and just seem freakin' perfect all the time. What the hell, y'all? Stop being like that! The latest news in the ongoing saga of Brangelina's awesomeness is that Jolie and Pitt write each other love letters. As though they're old time-y people. Like, she specifically says it's so they can be like old time-y people. (In so many words.)

In an interview with Australia's TV Week, Jolie explained that she and Pitt wrote each other while they apart when she was directing Unbroken and he was filming Fury. She said,

He was supportive from a distance and it was quite romantic in a way. We decided to be of that time when we could imagine he was in the European theatre and I was in the Pacific theater and we wrote hand-written letters to each other that were very connecting for us, thinking of the people that were separated for months if not years at a time back then.

Ughhh! Give me a break! Doesn't she know I love when people appreciate going without technology? Doesn't she know that now I want to write letters to my boyfriend even though it totally doesn't make sense for two people who live in the same tiny apartment? Doesn't she know that saying they thought about the people from olden times while writing the letters is really too much to handle?

This just reminds me of all the other times Jolie was completely inspirational or envy-inducing — not when it came to gaining wealth or having a really fantastic pair of designer shows, but when it came to being a decent human being. Like when she said that women in her position shouldn't complain: "I’m not a single mom with two jobs trying to get by every day." Or all the work she's done with the UN as a Goodwill Ambassador. Or the fact that's she adopted three of her six children in order to give them a better life.

Stop being so compassionate and appreciative, Jolie! Stop taking the time out of your insane life to be thoughtful! You're making the rest of us look bad.
