Remember When The Hoff Rescued SpongeBob?

by Kristie Rohwedder

Am I amped about The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie: Sponge Out of Water ? You bet your sandy cheeks I'm ready, I'm ready, I'm ready! If you told middle school Kristie that SpongeBob SquarePants would continue to be pumping out new episodes and movies when she was an adult, she’d probably flash a shiny grin (her braces really did sparkle whenever they caught the light), give you a high five, and then ask you if you think she should grow out her bangs or leave them be.

TSBSPM:SPOoW will cannonball into theaters in 2015 and it will take SpongeBob, Patrick, and the other denizens of Bikini Bottom to the next dimension. The third dimension, that is. Admittedly, I raised my eyebrows at the CGI-ification of the characters, for one of the many things the show and the first movie do right is combining 2D and live-action flawlessly (FLAWLESSLY, I say!). Why mess with a perfect spongey wheel?

No, the 3D characters won't stop me from seeing the sequel. Weird as it is, I actually like the trailer a great deal, OK? At the end of the day it's a SpongeBob movie and I love SpongeBob. And weird can be a very good thing. So yes, I'm still very excited for TSBSPM:SPOoW, thanks for asking.

THAT BEING SAID, there is one scene from the first movie that I doubt the fancy CGI’d sequel could ever top. A scene that has been burned in my mind for forever. It is the David Hasselhoff rescues SpongeBob and Patrick scene:

The Hoff's cackle. THE HOFF'S CACKLE.
