What To Wear To Made In America this Weekend

by May Sofi

If you plan on spending your Labor Day weekend jamming out to the best of EDM, hip-hop and rock, then you’ll probably be heading to Jay Z’s Annual Made in America Music Festival in Philadelphia (or Los Angeles!). Nothing is more enjoyable than spending a beautiful day outdoors with friends, surrounded by great music and beautiful set designs, but it can be difficult to join in the festival fashion fun without looking like a total cliché in your flower crown and crop top.

This year’s killer lineup includes major headliners like Kanye West, Tiesto, Kings of Leon and Steve Aoki, hailing from all parts of the music world and fulfilling the vision of “putting together a music festival that blurred those lines of genres, that all walks of life and all people can come [to],” as Jay Z told Rolling Stone. Since Made in America is so different than other festivals in that it combines artists from a wide range of styles, you can avoid the overdone headdress, flower crown, and neon bra. Which artists are you most excited to see? Choose your favorite and dress accordingly. I’ve got you covered with tips on how to show off your flair and stand out without overdoing it.

For The Rap Enthusiast

Psyched to see Kanye West, J. Cole, and Pharrell? Showcase your hip-hop swag with an edgy look that incorporates sleek accessories like a leather cap and cool wedge sneakers. Top it all off with a statement-making, topical graphic tee.

For The Boho Babe

If you’re drawn to all things floral, lace, and fringe, you can still unleash your free spirit without overdoing all the bells and whistles. As long as you stick to one major trend (piling on prints is the definition of overkill!) and accessorize minimally, you’ll be sure to score boho-chic on the hippie scale. One last tip: Leave the headgear at home!

For The Rock & Roll Chick

If heavy bass guitars and drums are more your thing, opt for a grunge-meets-glam ensemble complete with leather, plaid, and badass gunmetal jewelry. Your cool-girl attire will be the object of envy as you rock on to Kings of Leon all night!
