Candy Corn Hershey Bars: Yea or Nay?

You know, of all the things one might crumble up and shove in a chocolate bar, I can’t say that candy corn would my first pick — but apparently that doesn’t matter, because Candy Corn Hershey Bars are a thing this season. For real. And even more interestingly, reports indicate that they’re actually pretty good. Who knew?

The Impulsive Buy first spotted these festive little treats at the end of August; they seem to have only hit shelves recently, though, so if you desperately want to try them, now’s your chance. They look like they’re made of the white chocolate Hershey uses in their Cookies ‘n’ Cream bars, with bits of orange and yellow candy corn scattered throughout — but according to the package, the chocolate is actually “candy corn crème with candy bits.” Has the chocolate itself been given a dose of candy corn flavoring? Maybe!

According to Food Beast, people who strongly dislike candy corn probably won’t be too fond of the Hershey version; if, however, you don’t harbor any ill will towards the stuff, you’ll probably find the chocolate bars pretty enjoyable. And if you actively like candy corn? Well, then, this stuff was made for you, although I’m not convinced that you’re not a mythical creature. I usually consider candy corn lovers to occupy the same space in reality as the Loch Ness Monster and Bigfoot, but maybe that’s just me.

Hershey’s isn’t the only brand to have attempted a new twist on a candy pretty much no one likes; have you ever tried any of these five picks?

1. Candy Corn Oreos

These goodies from Nabisco hit the scene in 2012. Dinosaur Dracula praised their physical appearance — which, let’s face it, is pretty awesome — but also noted that while they tasted OK, “I’d still pick a regular Oreo over one of these.” If you’re not a fan of chocolate, maybe you’d feel differently.

2. Candy Corn M&Ms

Another product of 2012, Candy Corn M&Ms bizarrely start out tasting kind of like fruit, according to Serious Eats. Why? No idea. After that, the flavor fades to plain ol’ white chocolate, although apparently they have a fabulous texture.

3. Candy Corn Pops

In 2001, Kellogg’s gave Corn Pops a Halloween makeover by spiking the cereal with candy corn flavoring. I’ll be honest: I don’t really get it. Corn Pops taste like sugar to me. Candy corn also tastes like sugar to me. So how do candy corn-flavored Corn Pops taste any different from regular Corn Pops?

4. Charms Candy Corn Pops

You know, I bet these are actually pretty good. Charms has a pretty solid record when it comes to seasonal Halloween specialties; their Caramel Apple Pops are the best.

5. Candy Corn Starburst

Alas, Starburst’s variation on the theme don’t actually taste like candy corn; they’re just regular Starbursts molded to look like candy corn. I’m willing to bet that they probably taste way better, though, because Starbursts are the best.
