Where to Get Free Java on National Coffee Day

As far as I’m concerned, every day is National Coffee Day — but the honest-to-goodness official celebration of all things java-related is coming up on Sept. 29, so you know what that means, right? You got it: free coffee! Or more accurately, free or cheap coffee, but hey. Po-tay-toes, po-tah-toes. Deals are deals. In honor of the occasion, I’ve taken the liberty of hunting down a selection of places nationwide you can get a cup of joe inexpensively, as part of a packaged deal, or at no cost. Everyone deserves a coffee break! Here’s where to score yours:

Dunkin’ Donuts

Dunkin’ timed the release of their new dark roast to coincide with National Coffee Day, so on Sept. 29, they’re giving out free medium cups of the stuff with a limit of one per guest. Additionally, you continue to nab medium dark roasts for cheap — a mere 99 cents — between Sept. 30 and Oct. 5. Lastly, from Sept. 26 through Sept. 29, 16-ounce packages of all Dunkin’ coffee varieties, which normally cost $8.99, will be available for $6.99.

Au Bon Pain

Alas, the Au Bon Pain deal isn't a totally free one — but it's still pretty tempting. Score a coffee for 99 cents when you buy any breakfast sandwich (and believe you me, those breakfast sandwiches are delicious.)

Krispy Kreme

Good ol’ Krispy Kreme! On Sept. 29, the coffee’s either super cheap or totally on them: 12 oz. cups of joe are free at participating locations, and 12 oz. mochas, lattes, and iced coffee will only set you back a buck.

Brooklyn Water Bagel Co.

Another free-with-purchase deal, Brooklyn Water Bagels is giving away free hot or iced coffees with the purchase of any menu item on Sept. 29. They seem mostly to be based in Florida, but take a look and see if there’s a location near you.

McDonald’s

We already told you about this one, but McDonald’s is currently in the middle of their second free coffee event; from now through Sept. 29, nab a small McCafé coffee for free at participating locations.

Tim Horton’s

OK, so technically this one isn’t free — but at least it’s cheap, right? One dollar will get you a medium dark roast from now through Sept. 29. As the chain remarks on its Facebook page, you could also spend that buck on a pig-shaped loofah. Coffee or loofah? You decide!

Kangaroo Express

Another not-quite-freebie, Kangaroo Express will let you trade in all those pennies you collect when you get change back from paying for something in cash for the good stuff: 12-ounce Bean Street coffees only cost one cent at this convenience store chain on National Coffee Day.

LaMar’s Donuts

LaMar’s Donuts looks like they’re a Midwest chain, so I’m not familiar with them; that aside, though, anyone who gives out free 12-ounce coffees on Sept. 29 gets a gold star in my book.
