The Best Holiday Makeup Kits This Season

by Miki Hayes

I have such a love-hate relationship with the holiday season. Basically all of my spending money year-round goes towards beauty products, but I always look forward to the holidays so I can splurge on the products I normally don't treat myself to (I'm looking at you, Dior palettes). But after I spend all year planning exactly which small eyeshadow palette I'm going to blow over $50 on, come October, I get bombarded with too many new holiday makeup, value sets. And I WANT THEM ALL. Seriously, I can't say "no" to value.

From this point, I spiral out in a cloud of confusion. I spend hours everyday finding and researching all the palettes and sets that have and will come out. I do the math for all the miniature sizes to find out where the best deal is. (I don't even like math.) I look up swatches and watch hours of review videos. Does it sound like I have a problem? Because I totally do.

But I hope all of my hours pouring over these value sets can be put to good use. After extensive research, here are four of the best holiday sets for lips, eyes, and nails being offered from Sephora. Regardless of what you're looking for in your optimal holiday collection, there's something for everyone here. Or is it everything for someone...?

Lips

Clockwise from top left: Too Faced Melted Kisses ($25, $40 value), Urban Decay Full Frontal Lipstick Stash Set ($39, $71 value), Sephora Favorites Give Me More Lip ($59, $192 value), Buxom Winner Takes All ($32, $54 value)

Too Faced's kit includes four (0.16oz) liquid lipsticks in a variety of hues from nude to berry. Urban Decay's includes six (0.035oz) mini lipsticks, with three of them in exclusive, new shades. It also comes with a full-sized clear lip liner. Sephora's blockbuster set comes with 17 coveted lip products from brands like Tarte, Nars, and Hourglass; in a variety of types, finishes, colors, and sizes. (There's a full-sizer in here.) If you're someone who just loves lippies, this is the set for you. The set from Buxom includes six (0.07oz) lip glosses in both a cream and shimmer formula.

Eyes

Clockwise from top left: Marc Jacobs Beauty The Sky-Liner Seven Piece Petite Highliner Collection ($45, $175 value), Lancôme Boost the Drama ($38, $105 value), Sephora Favorites Lash Stash ($45, $118 value), Laura Mercier Mini Caviar Stick Eye Colour Quartet ($38, $67 value)

Marc Jacobs Beauty tried to disguise the value of this set by presenting the seven (0.01oz) eyeliners as mini-sized. Yes, the pencil is shorter than the "full-size" product, but there is the same amount of actual product in each of these as there is in the individual pencils. Such a steal. Lancôme's holiday set includes its fan-favorite products in deluxe sizes, plus a full-size Hypnôse Drama mascara. But if you really just love mascara, Sephora's got you covered. Their Lash Stash kit includes one eye-makeup remover and 10 mascaras from brands like YSL, Clinique, and Benefit; with various formulas, wands, and sizes (including a full-size). Laura Mercier's set includes four (0.03oz) long-wearing, cream shadow sticks in shimmery, neutral shades. These are perfect to wear alone or as a base for any eye-look.

Nails

Clockwise from top left: Butter London Gilded Gears ($28, $38 value), Formula X Paint The Town ($55, $138 value), Deborah Lippmann Party Mix Nail Lacquer Set ($55, $108 value), Ciaté Mini Mani Manor ($60, $199 value)

Butter London's kit includes four (0.2oz) steampunk-inspired colors. The gold glitter and matte wine colors are perfect for the holiday season. The Formula X kit includes 22 (0.13oz) polishes in a variety of shades and finishes. Six shades are new and exclusive, and all are housed in a paint tin — how cute! The set from Deborah Lippmann includes nine (0.27oz) colors that are totally party-ready with a healthy amount of shimmer and glitter. Ciaté is offering an advent calendar with 17 (0.16oz) Mini Paint Pots, one full-size Paint Pot, two (0.14oz) Mini Texture Pots, and three (0.18oz) Mini Texture Pods. A new nail treat everyday for a month? Yes please.

Happy shopping, fellow beauty-addicts.
