It's haaaappening! The trash can moment Eliza Dooley and Henry Higgs shared at the end of Tuesday night’s episode of Selfie was A Moment. No, it wasn’t the first Eliza and Henry Moment (I mean, come on. Remember that face Henry made at the hospital at the end of last Tuesday's episode? The face Henry made when Freddy volunteered to help Eliza home? That face said it all), but it felt like the most Moment-y Moment of the show so far. Eliza and Henry are totally falling for each other. ...Or am I mistaking a budding friendship vibes for a budding romance? Ugh, when it comes to reading body language, I can be SUCH an Eliza sometimes.
Here's what I'm running with: When Eliza said “When a friendship is real, you can feel it” in a voiceover, looked into Henry's eyes, and continued to eat her sandwich over the trash can, I thought of "Something There" from Beauty & The Beast . And I have yet to stop humming it. That must mean something, right? It must mean that they're friends who are falling for each other, right? That song wouldn't just pop into my mind for no reason, right? IT MUST BE A SIGN!
It’s been a hot minute since I last watched My Fair Lady, so I decided to scan through the stage show’s Wiki page (I know, I know) to refresh my memory about what happens with Henry Higgins and Eliza Doolittle. Well, I'll be! (Warning: I’m about to hit you with a spoiler for the decades-old musical.) Henry Higgins falls for Eliza Doolittle. And the ending implies Eliza Doolittle ultimately chooses Henry Higgins over Freddy Eynsford-Hill (FORGOT ABOUT THAT GUY) (Oh my Pygmalion, is Selfie Freddy supposed to be the Freddy Eynsford-Hill of the show?).
Will Selfie's main characters' relationship trajectory mirror that of the My Fair Lady leads? I don't know. If it does, it'll be a while before Eliza and Henry act on those trashcan vibes. Those probably non-platonic trashcan vibes that I'm 99% sure I did not imagine.
Newwwwww! And a bit alarming! Whoever thought that this could be?
