"Then Comes a Baby in a Baby Carriage...?"

by Georgette Eva

Remember when George Clooney swore off love and marriage and baby carriages? OK it might sound like I’m just quoting that childhood nursery rhyme, but it was certainly true once upon a time — although it certainly isn't now. As we all know, Clooney wed international human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin in September. So what about that baby carriages part? While I'm sure they enjoy being newlyweds and getting back to their day-to-day lives — being a badass lawyer and one of the biggest actors out there — I can only wonder if George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin will have kids. It's possible, isn't it? He did change his mind on marriage, after all.

After his divorce from actress Talia Balsam (their marriage lasted from 1989 to 1993), Clooney said that he would never marry again. No one believed him at first, because we've all been in Clooney's shoes after a break up and have probably said the same thing. According to People, famous friends Michelle Pfeiffer and Nicole Kidman bet him $10,000 that he would have kids by the time he was 40, but when the silver fox was still a happy-go-lucky bachelor by his fourth decade, Clooney won the bet. Yet now, things have definitely turned around for Clooney. Not only has the eternal bachelor gone gotten married, but he’s continuing to flaunt it in our faces with endless celebratory reminders. First there was their star-studded wedding festivities in Venice, then 10-minute civil ceremony the next day, and a couple weeks later a second fete in the U.K. We got it George, you're at the level where you would jump on Oprah's retired love seat and tell the world that, "You. Love. This. Woman." We know. You're a changed man.

So what about those kids? In 2006, Clooney voiced his opinion on having babies to People, saying,

I think it's the most responsible thing you can do, to have kids. I think it's the biggest responsibility you'll have, and it's not something to be taken lightly. I don't have that thing in me that says, "must do it." I don't see myself ever having kids. But everything in my life has changed over periods of time ... and the world does change.

That was about eight years ago, and Eight Years Ago Clooney was right to predict that his life and perspective was going to change. So while at the time he didn't see himself ever having kids, he obviously might have a different perspective now. According to a source who spoke with Hollywoodlife.com (so, not as concrete as the words from Clooney himself, but it could be something), Clooney's looking forward to being a doting dad with Alamuddin as his partner. Maybe he just needed to find his match.

Also, the couple's new home in London has tons of extra space to raise mini Clooneys, and the county they chose apparently has excellent primary schools, meaning their future progeny could have an English education like Alamuddin. Maybe Clooney purchased it with those key characteristics in mind? Right, George?

OK, he hasn't officially said anything, but there there were also those rumors after they got engaged that the couple wanted to get started on making a family soon because of Alamuddin's father's wishes. Radar Online reported that her father wants the couple to start soon because he's getting older and wants to be able to meet their children. They certainly were expeditious in getting to the altar, so maybe they're abiding by her dad's wishes.

Of course, it's all speculation, and neither of the Clooneys have publicly said anything in the past months about any possible baby making plans, but I wouldn't rule it out entirely. George Clooney said he'd never marry and that happened. Who's to say this won't play out?
