Tracy Morgan Is Still Fighting to Get Better

by Kadeen Griffiths

This is a sad news update concerning Tracy Morgan, who was one of the victims of a tragic car crash in June 2014. Despite the horrific rumors that circulated at the time, such as that Morgan's leg had been amputated, he emerged from the hospital alive and well — for the most part. However, Morgan continues to struggle on the journey back to a full recovery in numerous ways that could inhibit his career going forward. In fact, according to his lawyer, Morgan is battling a severe brain injury and may never be "the Tracy Morgan he once was."

"When you have a traumatic brain injury, it takes a very long time to find out how you're going to do and how much you're going to recover," said lawyer Benedict Morelli. "You just don't know. So that's where he is. He's still fighting and trying to live his life at the same time and trying to get better, and he's just not better. We're hoping and praying to get him back to where he was. But the jury's out."

Morgan is currently embroiled in a lawsuit with Walmart for "punitive and compensatory damages," since it was one of their trucks that was involved in the crash that took the life of one person and injured three others — Morgan included. Between the postponement of Morgan's FX comedy series, the long hospital stay, and the stint in rehab while the actor recovers from his various injuries, it's incredibly disheartening to be reminded of how slowly that recovery is going and how uncertain things remain even now that he is at least healthy enough to be recovering at home.

Hopefully, Morgan's health will continue to improve and we can one day see him back on our televisions and movie screens as if this tragedy had never happened. In the meantime, all we can really do is wait and hope for positive news about his recovery and that the lawsuit between Walmart and Morgan gets settled in a way that is satisfactory for both of them.
