Introducing the Vagina Facial

by Erin Mayer

Today in "weird procedures you can have done at the salon," I introduce... the vagina facial. Yeah, it exists. According to the New York Post, famed New York City salon J. Sisters has introduced "The Vajaycial" (that's Page Six's word for it and it's amazing) to help sooth the skin of your bikini line. You can't make this stuff up.

The J. Sisters, whose salon is located on West 57th Street, are known for bringing the Brazilian wax to New York over twenty years ago, a distinction which earned them an homage in an episode of "Sex and the City" and a celebrity following that includes Goopy Gwyneth Paltrow. This week the salon will introduce "Gommage Therapy" for customers' nether regions. A source told the Post that it's "a facial type thing for the area ‘down there,’ and helps deal with cosmetic issues including ingrown hairs.” I'm listening.

According to About.com, gommage is "a highly effective way to exfoliate the face or body, leaving skin feeling silky soft." The J. Sisters may not be reinventing the wheel, but they are re-appropriating the wheel so that it works for your vagina. Although the phrase "vagina facial" sounds absurd, I'm actually not put-off by the idea of exfoliating the bikini line. The skin in that area tends to be super sensitive and prone to irritation. Perhaps these J. Sisters are on to something.

If smooth skin isn't quite enough for you, the salon is also introducing J. Sisters Couture, which, according to the Daily Mail, "will offer 'color and shaping' for the nether regions of older women who are going grey." Because GOD FORBID we let our pubic hair go grey, am I right?? (No, I'm not.)
