'To Write Love On Her Arms' Trailer Shows Kat Dennings In A Dramatic Turn & Tells An Important Story

It seems we've got ourselves another actor who's stretching the timeframe in which it's feasible for them to be playing teenagers into their late twenties. But hey, at least Kat Dennings is doing it for a good cause. The first trailer for To Write Love On Her Arms showcases Dennings' lead role in the true story of the inception of the charity of the same name. And besides: Dennings may be 28, but Bianca Lawson's 35 and has been playing a teenager since 1993.

To Write Love On Her Arms the charity is a non-profit aiming to help those struggling with depression, addiction, self-harm, and suicidal thoughts through non-traditional means like music festivals and social networking sites. To Write Love On Her Arm the movie is a film that follows the the founding of said non-profit, centering on Renee Yohe (Dennings), whose story was first documented by Jamie Tworkowski (played by Chad Michael Murray). The movie also co-stars Rupert Friend (Homeland) and Corbin Bleu, and was previously known as Day One and Renee, before being named after the non-profit itself.

The low-down, via Film Affinity:

The story follows 19-year-old Renee (Kat Dennings) who has always loved fairy tales: the idea of a princess, a hero and a happily ever after. But Renee's life is that of a darker tale: she's a young woman battling addiction, depression and self-injury. In a creative blend of artistic fantasy balanced with harsh reality, the movie follows Renee on her courageous journey towards recovery.

It's certainly a more dramatic turn for Dennings than her day job at 2 Broke Girls, but she's made dramatic turns before, even in (relatively) lighthearted fare like Charlie Bartlett. This is obviously more of an overall drama, however, than The House Bunny or even the Thor movies.
