Like a fine wine and cheese platter, Bradley Cooper only gets better with age. He turns 40 on Jan. 5, and he may be aging backward because he looks fantastic. (If you need proof, just look at him shirtless in Elephant Man on Broadway.) There are many reasons to love the actor, including how he speaks fluent French, has piercing blue eyes, and is phenomenal onscreen whether he's a raccoon or wooing Jennifer Lawrence. But today, it makes sense to remember the former Sexiest Man Alive's good looks.

Although he has always been attractive, he's had some hair mishaps over the years — hello, frosted tips! — and some goofy looks since 2001's Alias. Let's take a walk down memory lane, shall we?

Those frosted tips will live on forever. RIP, Alias.

Two words: baby face.

The stubble is here to stay, starting in 2003.

What’s up with the flat hair?

Casual reminder that Lauren Graham and Matthew Perry used to date.

Proof that Paul Rudd and Penelope Cruz also don’t age. Bonus White Hot American Summer reunion, too!

This was right before he decided to change his hair…

Um, nice hat?

“You’ve got that long hair, slicked back…”

OK, things are getting good now. Hello, blue eyes.

He can’t decide with his hair length, but he knows how to style it now.

Bradley Cooper + Ryan Gosling = heaven.

Also, Jennifer Lawrence + Bradley Cooper = heaven. The best. Those smiles!

You really got us now, Bradley. Here’s to 40 more years of looking dapper in a suit.
