'Mistresses' Fans, You Will Get Closure

by Kate Ward

It seems ABC will continue its retreat into scripted summer programming. The network announced Wednesday that it has decided to renew Mistresses , the soapy drama starring Alyssa Milano, despite the fact that the series had ABC's lowest-rated premiere since 2011 this summer.

That said, the drama maintained its premiere numbers, ending with 3.9 million viewers and showing a strong dedication in viewers attracted to Mistresses, which follows four friends and their role in illicit relationships. Perhaps a second season is all the series needs to follow in the footsteps of its predecessor, the British series that's a hit overseas.

The announcement is good news for Mistresses stars, Rochelle Aytes, Jes Macallan, Yunjin Kim, and Brett Tucker. But it's also good news for its viewers, who watched Season 1 end with Milano's pregnant character, Savi, suffering medical trauma after a life-threatening car accident and Kim's character, Dr. Karen Kim, possibly being the victim of a gunshot. Those are definitely two cliffhangers worthy of a full season renewal.

But the biggest cliffhanger of all: Will we find out the fate of Jason George's Dominic? Because it's unlikely the actor will return to the series — George is currently locked into Witches of East End. How will we bear without him casting a spell on us all in Mistresses?
