'Homeland's Season 3 Trailer is a Big Bummer

by Alanna Bennett

Homeland took home two Emmys this past weekend — for Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series — but it's actually been quite awhile since the show was in our lives. That'll change this coming Monday, Sept. 29 with the premiere. In the meantime, we've got the official trailer for Homeland Season 3 right here, and it's not exactly cheerful. But what do you really expect from a show about terrorism and mental illness?

The trailer opens with a quiet scene from last season's finale. Specifically, the scene in which Carrie (Claire Danes) and Brody (Damian Lewis) said goodbye as Brody went on the run. It's a nice way to wrench our hearts into gear for the new season, which the rest of the trailer portrays through The Cinematic Orchestra's "To Build a Home" and clips of the remainder of the CIA fallout from last season's terror attack. And more: hospitals, a bald Brody, and more generally depressing (yet thrilling!) snapshots of the episodes to come.

It also includes Dana naked and taking a cell picture of herself, so that's obviously going to go wonderfully for everybody. The trailer ends with Saul telling Carrie he's "so sorry." Unless you watched the leaked pilot online already, you don't know what for, but it's sure to involve a lot of ugly-crying!
