Kim Kardashian Says She Bought Kourtney a Kareer

by Marenah Dobin

The internet was buzzing after the trailer for new season of Keeping Up with the Kardashians was released. As a fan of the show, I was super excited for the new episodes that are on the way. But there was one part of that preview that I kept rewinding to watch again. An angry Kim Kardashian laments "I’m not buying her shoes, I bought her a f***ing career” during a heated conversation. I honestly assumed that it was about her younger sister Kendall Jenner and apparently a bunch of other people did too. Kim Kardashian defended herself by saying, "That was not about Kendall. It hurt me when people thought I would say that about her." Well that's good that she wouldn't say that about her own sister, but she actually said it about another sister. Kim admitted that it was actually about Kourtney Kardashian saying: "Kourtney was being a little difficult with me." But is that any better?

Kim had no further justification for the comments, saying that we should all tune into the next season of the show, of course. How is it OK for her to say that about any of her sisters? Does she justify it because Kourtney is the oldest sister? Does she justify it because Jenner is not a part of the family businesses and has an independent career? No matter how she justifies it to herself, I disagree with the comment. I understand that she could have said that impulsively out of anger, but she could have at least had a more reasonable defense or more remorse in retrospect. Watch the trailer for yourself, fast forward to the 1:20 mark if you want to skip straight to the comment.

Additionally, Kim makes a lot of her money from the family businesses. They have stores, fashion lines, and beauty brands that are developed and endorsed by her family. They are able to do this due to the massive success of Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

As a faithful viewer of the show, I tune in to see the latest in Kourtney and Scott Disick's relationship. I laugh at Khloe Kardashian's comments in the interviews. I am amused by the cuteness Mason and Penelope Disick bring to the show. I could go on and on, but the point is that Kim Kardashian may have the celebrity power, but she does not provide all of entertainment value to the show. Yes, her name and fame pushed the family into the spotlight, but their personalities and work ethnic are what keep them there.

In my mind, Kim Kardashian should not be throwing shade at her own family members. She is a mother and is trying to have a second child — How would she feel if North West made similar comments about her future sibling? It's certainly not a habit that North or anyone else should aspire to "keep up with."
