Gwyneth Gives "Anaconda" a Broadway Cover

by Kadeen Griffiths

I'm not going to lie. Of all the sketches that Jimmy Fallon does during The Tonight Show, I have two particular favorites. I love the Lip Sync Battle and I love Broadway Versions of Hip-Hop Songs. No matter who he brings on to participate, it's usually a recipe for awesomeness. I mean, just recall when Emma Stone crushed Fallon in a Lip Sync Battle that would live on in infamy. On Wednesday night, Fallon and Gwyneth Paltrow teamed up to cover hip-hop songs in Broadway style, and the results were...well. If you ever thought that Nicki Minaj's "Anaconda" was lacking a little something that only a cabaret remix could make up for, then this is the video for you.

Wearing a light pink jumpsuit and smiling with all the mystery and allure of a real-life cabaret singer, Paltrow took the mic with classy charm in order to sing a medley of songs from "Anaconda" to Drake's "Started From the Bottom." Meanwhile, Fallon complimented her well with his usual dramatic showmanship, smiling big and wide like a child even as his voice was deep and sultry as he introduced each new song. All in all, it was one of those moments that made you wish for a moment that variety or vaudeville shows were still a thing, because Fallon would be perfect for one. Then again, I suppose the talk show is the modern-day variety show, considering many of them feature sketches just like this one.
