Unless you're a diehard fan of the books, chances are you know very little about the majority of characters that reside in the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise. Well, aside from the main duo, of course: Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. Other than that, though, the cast may be somewhat of a mystery since, let's face it, the main promotional focus has been on the two central characters and their rather interesting love story? (But hey, if I had the likes of Jamie Dornan at my disposal that's exactly what I'd do too.) However, having read the book myself, there is one character in particular I'd like to draw your attention and that's Ana's best friend and roommate, Kate Kavanagh, played by Eloise Mumford.
Though she doesn't appear too much throughout the books, make no mistake — her role is a very, very important one, not only due to her close relationship with Ana, but also because it's because of her that Ana and Christian ever meet in the first place. You see, Kate is an aspiring journalist and was originally supposed to be the one to go to Christian's office to interview him. However, when she comes down with the flu that day, she enlists (or rather begs) Ana to go in her stead. And from there, well… you'll see. So yeah, she's basically the person that set this whole erotic adventure in motion, so I'd say that warrants a closer look into her character, don't you? Such as…
She's Super Fun & Sassy
While Ana usually describes herself as being reserved and on the quiet side, Kate is the polar opposite. She loves being the center of attention, exudes complete confidence in everything she does, and is always up for a good time. This vast personality difference is part of what makes it so surprising to Ana when Christian shows rather interest in her rather than her roommate, who has been the source of many admirers. But it's that yin and yang effect which makes their particular relationship so special.
She Dates Christian's Brother, Elliot Grey
Though many will obsess over Christian and Ana, I'm very interested to see how Kate and Elliot's relationship plays out on-screen. The two have very similar outgoing type of personalities, which will be a fun comparison to the central duo's love story. They might not be quite as kinky, but I'm sure their combined chemistry will be off the charts!
She Does Not Trust Christian
Kate may not be completely in the know about the unique aspects of Ana's relationship, but she becomes very protective of her BFF as time goes on anyway — which just goes to further show how much she cares about and values her roommate's happiness. You won't be able to help but fall in love with her.
