Welcome to New York, Men's Fashion Week

by Eliza Florendo

It's time. Today, the CFDA announced that it will be launching New York Fashion Week: Men's starting with Spring 2015 collections. While whispers about this launch have been around for quite some time, it was just this past fall season when CFDA announced that it was looking for sponsors to support the week-long showcase.

The event, held biannually, will start in the week of July 13 at Skylight Clarkson Sq. Taking a page from London Collections:Men, the New York Fashion Week: Men's will feature brands like Calvin Klein, Rag & Bone, and Tommy Hilfiger. And following traditional Fashion Week, the men's collections will be a mix of runway shows, presentations, and special events, according to the CFDA. Michael Kors, Public School, Billy Reid, Patrik Ervell, and more are joining the fun as well.

CEO of CFDA Steven Kolb said "American menswear has never been stronger or more creative. It gives the designers a business platform to show during their market dates and is an opportunity to demonstrate the collective talent of an important segment of our industry."

While London was the first to hold a series of menswear presentations and shows throughout a whole weekend, other cities like Singapore, LA, and Vancouver all produce a men's fashion week.

I kicked off last Fall/Winter 2014 New York Fashion Week with three men's collections: Carlos Campos, Bespoke, and David Hart. And I ate it all up. As a menswear lover that's on a tight budget (read: digging for quarters for laundry), I've always been disappointed by the fact that I haven't been able to see a men's fashion week in the flesh. But my prayers have been answered—thank you, fashion gods. Oh, and you too CFDA.
