The premiere that loads of people have been waiting for (and that even more have been avoiding) is imminent. You know the one I'm talking about — that book-turned-movie that's about to grace all the big screens come Valentine's Day. Yep, I mean 50 Shades of Grey , of course. I feel pretty guilty saying this, but I did actually read the first book. It was during a particularly bad snowstorm, when I was stuck at my dad's. For reasons that I do not care to know, it was the only book he had available. Ultimately, I was unimpressed. And I don't exactly have high hopes for the film adaptation. But I do appreciate the whole series for one thing: It brings to the mainstream a non-traditional sexuality — one that's not as easy to characterize as straight vs. gay, and one that still possesses a lot of taboos. The reality is that sexuality is complicated and messy and weird, and as a collective society, we're still extremely uncomfortable discussing (let alone accepting) sexualities that differ from what is considered "normal."

All that being said, I do think that BDSM is pretty widely discussed as compared to other fetishes and preferences. Some aspects of sadomasochistic sexualities are present in the bedrooms of most couples I know, anyway, so my guess is that has something to do with it. In the end, I can get down with the fact that 50 Shades of Grey has made some men and women more comfortable admitting to their own kinkier tastes. Amongst them, the naughtier, more dominant side of female sexuality in particular (because even though Anastasia Steele is a sub and all, I'm pretty sure she's made a lot of girls think about their dom side).

So... if you are a plus-size woman, and you happen to have a dominatrix-y side to your persona/sex life, you might be interested in celebrating this long-awaited, long-dreaded film release with a little bit of gear of your own. Splurging on a plus-size Valentine's Day dress is all good and well, but everyone needs something a little — erm — darker in their wardrobe. Here are some sexy, sultry, sometimes slit-y lingerie items to commemorate the occasion.
