The always stunning Naomi Campbell looks to be a fixture at New York Fashion Week this year! The model, who recently shaded the Instagram generation of runway walkers, is shepherding a truly important cause. Naomi Campbell will host Fashion for Relief, a benefit show raising funds for Ebola awareness that takes place smack dab in the middle of New York Fashion Week and all of its glorious chaos. It'll be like the much-missed '90s all over again!
The event is scheduled to occur at Lincoln Center in NYC on Valentine's Day, which is Saturday, February 14, at 8PM. The event is open to the public, but for the (actually pretty affordable) price of $40. That's a small chunk of change to pay in order to hobnob with fashion's elite and to do some good for an important cause, however passively.
Since Campbell was a key member of the '90s supermodel crew comprised of Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington, Elle Macpherson, Linda Evangelista, and more, I can't help but be willing to wager a tiny bet that one or more of those big fashion names will be on site to support a great cause and their pal. I'd venture to guess that you can expect to see some of Campbell's equally gorgeous and fabulous friends to show up, although we don't yet know which of her peeps will be on site.
While the domestic Ebola panic has calmed down a bit, it's still a global problem and one we can't and should not forget about just because it's no longer knocking on our front doors.
While Fashion Week is about clothes, clothes, clothes, and models, models, models, it's always refreshing when a dedicated charity element, such as this Ebola benefit, happens amid all the beautiful people and things. It shows the rest of the world that fashion is not frivolous.
Remember, the fashion world is also a huge platform for good and has exponential reach. I don't need Miranda Priestly to remind me (or Andy Sachs) about the value of fashion while dressing me down in a room full of co-workers. Like so.
