Kanye West & Beck Mashup Is A Win

by Kristie Rohwedder

You thought your weekend was eventful? OK, maybe it was crazy-eventful. Who am I to say otherwise? I don't know your story. But you know what I can say with complete confidence? Arcade Fire’s Win Butler's weekend was significantly more eventful than mine. I mean, I don't know about you, but I sure as shadoobie did not play in the 2015 NBA All-Star Celebrity Game, nor did I serve up my own blend of coffee at a café or introduce Miley Cyrus during the Saturday Night Live 40th anniversary special. And finally, I DEFINITELY didn't create the mashup that's needed to happen ever since last weekend's Grammy Awards kerfuffle: Under the name DJ Windows 98, Butler released a mashup of Beck’s “Loser” and Kanye West’s “Jesus Walks”. The verdict: "Jesus Walks, Loser" is the bomb dot com. A bonafide jam. A win. (Sorry, had to.)

If Butler mashed up every song on Odelay with a different song on The College Dropout, à la what DJ Danger Mouse did with The White Album and The Black Album, I wouldn't hate it. I wouldn't hate it one bit. Just throwing that out into the ether.

...Uh oh. The Odelay/College Dropout idea seed has been planted in my head. I really, really want it to come true. My first request: A "New Pollution"/"Kanye's Workout Plan" mashup, please and thank you.
