Meryl & J.Lo Have Set the Internet on Fire

by Rachel Semigran

Tonight's Oscars will be hard-pressed to have a moment more inspiring than Patricia Arquette's acceptance speech. Her impassioned words about the rights of women to have a fair wage lit-terally made Meryl Streep and Jennifer Lopez leap to their feet and testify. If that isn't a win for feminism, I don't know what is. While celebrating her win for Boyhood, Arquette stated, "To every woman who gave birth, to every taxpayer and citizen of this nation, we have fought for everybody else’s equal rights, it’s our time to have wage equality once and for all, and equal rights for women in the United States of America." Yes. Yes. Yes. A million times YES.

I think it's safe to say that every single woman nominated in that category was beyond thrilled for Arquette as her win and her speech were a score for women everywhere. Streep and Lopez's reactions were exactly what all of us loud and proud feminists were feeling in that moment. Heck, I'd go so far as to call it a religious moment. The Oscar-winner made believers to the Church of Arquette out of all of us. Even Meryl Streep. Now that is power.

Here are some of the Internet's best reactions to Meryl and J.Lo losing their sh*t:

Of course, Arquette herself got some meme-worthy love as well:

Who can't help but love that this was an Oscar ceremony that rooted for the ladies, and helped strong women befriend other strong women?

Heck, why were we complaining about this extra-long ceremony again? Preach as long as you like, ladies.
