17 'Insurgent' Quotes We Need To See In The Film

by Anna Klassen

The second film installment in the Divergent series, Insurgent , is right around the corner. When we left off, Tris and Four had escaped the clutches of Jeanine Matthews and her attempt at turning all of humanity into robots, but the fight is far from over. Tris' parents are dead, Four (real name Tobias)'s dad could be a new villain, and the system of factions has all but crumbled. In Insurgent, the journey continues on the big screen, with Shailene Woodley, British heartthrob Theo James, Whiplash's Miles Teller, The Fault in Our Stars Ansel Elgort, and the one and only Kate Winselt all back for the fun.

But before the film hit theatres, the story of Beatrice Prior and her divergence came from the mind of 25-year-old author Veronica Roth. A young author who just secured her next series, an unnamed set of books from HarperCollins "in the vein of Star Wars" that focuses on a boy's unlikely alliance with an enemy. While we wait for those books — the first will debut in 2017 — let's take a look back at some of the best quotes from Insurgent we need to see the in the adaptation in theatres March 20.

“Cruelty does not make a person dishonest, the same way bravery does not make a person kind.”

“People, I have discovered, are layers and layers of secrets. You believe you know them, that you understand them, but their motives are always hidden from you, buried in their own hearts. You will never know them, but sometimes you decide to trust them.”

“I am his, and he is mine, and it has been that way all along.”

“It reminds me why I chose Dauntless in the first place: not because they are perfect, but because they are alive. Because they are free.”

“Evil depends on where you're standing.”

“Insurgent, he says. Noun. A person who acts in opposition to the established authority, who is not necessarily regarded as a belligerent.”

“I love Tris the Divergent, who makes decisions apart from faction loyalty, who isn’t some faction archetype. But the Tris who’s trying as hard as she can to destroy herself … I can’t love her.”

“Killing you is not the worst thing they can do to you," I say. "Controlling you is.”

“Let me get this straight. So you left the Dauntless compound to get ready for war... and took your makeup bag with you?""Yep. Figured it would be harder for anyone to shoot me if they saw how devastatingly attractive I was...”

“He kisses me again, more insistent this time, his hands squeezing my waist. His breaths, his body, my body, we are so close there is no difference.”

“Crying defies scientific explanation. Tears are only meant to lubricate the eyes. There is no real reason for tear glands to overproduce tears at the behest of emotion.”

“I am still the person who would have died rather than kill you”

“It would be stupid to confide your entire plan to one person. It’s infinitely smarter to give little pieces of it to eachperson working with you. That way, if someone betrays you, the loss isn’t too great.”

“Nothing else is all right.” His whisper tickles my cheek. “But we are.”

“We share a common enemy, but does that make us friends?”

“Because inside me is a beast that snarls, and growls, and strains toward freedom.. and as hard as I try, I cannot kill it.”

“I love you." He frowns."Say it again."

"Tobias," I say. "I love you.”
