7 Ways to Nail Milan Fashion Week's Ombre Lip

by Jessica Willingham

I guess drag queens have had it right all along, especially when it comes to this gorgeous beauty look: The ombre lip trend at Milan Fashion Week showed us the latest way to apply the look we can't get enough of. Luxury designers and labels — like Dior, Miu Miu, Prabal Gurung, Jason Wu, and Kenneth Cole — have been styling runway shows with the ombre lip and Milan Fashion Week 2015 was no different.

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics CEO and creative director David Klasfeld told Huffington Post that the trend has been showing up on the runway for years, and its origins lie in — you guessed it — drag.

"Drag queens have absolutely popularized the look by showing the public at large how easy it is to achieve," Klasfeld said. "Prior to that, it's been a trick of the trade on stage anywhere, be it on the runway or in the theater, to make lips appear as large as possible without looking overdrawn simply with lip liner."

It's a look anyone can master, that is, with a little practice, a good lip liner, gloss and a lip brush. Here's some Instaspiration for your next lip look.

1. Purple Haze

Purple, vampy lips are dark and dramatic. This is a toned down color, but still packs a punch. Pair it with a smokey eye for date night.

2. Peachy

Two-toned lips to the extreme!

3. Fade

This is a high fashion look that pairs best with an ultra plain eye and white eyeliner.

4. '90s Nude

The Kylie Jenner, mauve lip craze isn't going anywhere. Change it up with an ombre effect.

5. Pinky

A bold pinky lip with a strong, winged eyeliner is a go-to girls' night look.

6. Orange Dream

Orange, like purple, is a big beauty commitment. But electric orange is in, and an ombre effect softens the look.

7. Frosty

A perfect look for winter that transitions well into early spring. This is a perfect mix of ombre and pastel trends.
