What Fish Mooney's Departure May Mean For 'Gotham'

by Kelly Schremph

There may be plenty of other fish in the sea in regards to love, but when it comes to Gotham's No. 1 villain, Fish Mooney is one of a kind. And yet, it appears as though we'll be saying goodbye to this big bad in the very near future. During an interview on Friday's episode of Live With Kelly and Michael, Jada Pinkett Smith revealed she will not return for Gotham Season 2. “I don’t think so, no. I signed for a year and the year is up,” Pinkett Smith told both morning hosts. “But there are some great things coming ahead on Gotham, believe you me. There’s a lot of good stuff coming.” But… but… why?!?!

Smith's character has proven herself to be quite the formidable foe throughout the FOX hit series' freshman year. I mean, the girl literally gouged her own eye out a few weeks back. She is a legit badass. So to consider the show without her feels like a crime against Gotham itself. However, like with any TV departure, there's always hope for a few potential cameos somewhere down the line. Fish could return to Gotham in some capacity next season, even if only for an episode or two — so long as she doesn't die, of course. And it seems Smith isn't completely against the idea. “She could show up anywhere, you never know!” she added in the interview. Check it out below and see for yourself…

So I'm taking that as a very hopeful yes. I mean, it's cryptic, sure. But I'll take it. And in keeping with that positive outlook (I swear, it's not denial, guys), I've gone ahead and concocted a few different incentives that could motivate Fish to return in the future. (Death is not a viable option. I simply won't allow it.)

To Continue Her Romance With Harvey

For a brief glorious moment in time, we thought these two were going to become a full-fledged couple. And while that has yet to come to fruition, it does leave a potential door open as to why Fish would come back for a visit. To which I say, bring it on. (Pretty please?)

To Exact Vengeance On Penguin… Finally

That bird has managed to waddle out of her grasp for far too long. I doubt she'd give up her vendetta against Oswald Cobblepot very easily. She would just need some time away to plot and set her vengeful wheels in motion.
