Cate Blanchett Reveals New Baby's Name!

by Lia Beck

It was quite a surprise early in the day on Friday when reports came out that Cate Blanchett and her husband Andrew Upton had adopted a baby girl together. The couple, who already have three boys together, will surely make great parents to their new daughter, so it was hard to feel anything but happy for them and inspired by the generosity and selflessness that comes with adopting a child. It was also hard to not feel curious about the baby's name. Hearing baby's names is always interesting, and only a few hours after Blanchett's rep confirmed the news of the adoption, her publicist has also confirmed the baby's name.

Blanchett and Upton's daughter is named Edith Vivian Patricia Upton. Personally, this makes me think three things.

1. Was this name inspired by Downton Abbey? Because some onesies printed with the words "Lady Edith" might be in order.

2. Hey! She's only kind of named Vivian. Before the name was confirmed by Blanchett's rep, it was reported that the baby was named Vivienne which reminded me of the many other celebrity babies of the same name. ButEdithVivian Patricia really switches things up!

3. This name is pretty darn conventional considering the names of Upton and Blanchett's other children. The three boys are named: Roman Robert, Ignatius Martin, and Dashiell John. That said, all of these kids have some pretty powerful-sounding names, Edith Vivian Patricia included.

Congrats again to the happy family! And a warm welcome to Edith!
