How HBO Will Honor 'Sopranos' Actor James Gandolfini

by Sam Rullo

Update: When going HBO's website, HBO.com, the screen stays black for a few seconds before the rest of the content loads, as a nod to the infamous Sopranos series finale. The homepage then features a photo of James Gandolfini, with a link to HBO's statement on his death.

After yesterday's tragic news of James Gandolfini's death at 51 years old, HBO has added a simple tribute to the Sopranos star on its network. Though there are currently no plans for any marathons of the renowned drama, when a regularly scheduled episode airs, it will be accompanied by the message, "HBO mourns the loss of James Gandolfini, a beloved member of the HBO family." The tribute first aired last night at 10 p.m., with the Season 5 episode, "Where's Johnny."

It seems fans are also paying tribute to the late actor — The Sopranos is quickly rising through iTunes' top downloaded TV seasons. Many celebrities — including Journey, whose "Don't Stop Believin'" famously played during Sopranos ' final scene — have also shared their remembrances of the beloved star.
