There's a reason Miranda Priestly rocked gray hair. Because it looked both beautiful and intimidating. And with recent celebrations of the aging years, a là Joan Didion for Céline and Joni Mitchell for Saint Laurent, it's no wonder the gray hair trend has practically exploded. And I mean, even Karl Lagerfeld does it.
It's so popular that it's even got its own hashtag: #grannyhair. I spent most of my childhood with my mother buying boxed dye to cover the grays that would inevitably creep its way in, but it seems that now, this little color is not only a trend—it's a statement.
Celebs have opted for this trend for a while now, including brief stints from Rihanna, Kylie Jenner, and Pink. Unusual hair colors have been all the rage lately—think Kelly Osborne's purple hair and Hillary Duff's recent mermaid dye job—and has even led to some new hair businesses for celebs, like Kylie Jenner and Demi Lovato's extension lines.
While I love a good pop of color here and there, I'm all about the switch to gray. While definitely still a big change, it's less jarring than the other color options and seems to be more appropriate for the work world. And come on, how good does Orange Is The New Black star Dascha Polanco look with the silvery trend?
Grey locks have also given a new twist to the traditional ombré. See: Lilah Parsons. If you're looking for a new change, why not try this trend out? Move over silver foxes, it's time for the silver felines.
