How To Make A Giant Cake Made Out Of Peeps
I need you to stop what you're doing and listen to me for a second, because this is the Peeps cake recipe of your dreams. Seriously, if you're a lover of those adorable, pastel marshmallows shaped like tiny birds bathed in sugar crystals, then this Easter dessert recipe will be on your mind all day until you can finally hit the grocery store and whip it up. And even if you aren't Peeps' biggest fan, this will at least make you reconsider your attitude toward these gooey little monsters. What makes this Easter recipe by Cookies, Cupcakes, and Cardio special is the surprise it has inside. Yes, a surprise! See? Didn't I say you'd want to pay attention?
Basically, blogger Jenn of Cookies, Cupcakes, and Cardio has found a way to not only create a cake that resembles the little yellow chick we’ve come to associate with Easter, she’s also brilliantly discovered how to fill it with actual Peeps so that when you cut into the cake, you’re presented with the most deliciously meta experience of your life. We're talking Peeps inside a giant Peep, you guys. It’s kind of hard to wrap your head around, I know, so I’ll give you another second to process what I’m telling you. Still not sure what I mean? OK fine. Allow me to show you this video:
While making this cake isn't exactly, er, a piece of cake (sorry), the extra effort is worth it if you're a true Peeps connoisseur. As Jenn of Cookies, Cupcakes, and Cardio suggests, avoid using box mixes for the cake portion, or else risk your cake crumbling apart after the carving — box mixes tend to be lighter and weaker compared to a cake made from scratch. Here’s the recipe, broken down:
1. Gather your cake, Peeps, and frosting
2. Using a round cake on top of a larger rectangular cake, begin to carve the shape of a Peep (use the round cake as the head, and the rectangular cake as the body)
3. Keep carving...
4. Don't stop carving!
5. Cut a hole in the center of the cake, and fill it in with Peeps
6. Frost your cake with marshmallow icing
7. Add on a few chocolate eyes (the better to see you with, my dear)
8. Dig in!
