Who's Gonna Star In 'Fast & Furious 8?'

by Rachel Simon

It may only be April, but the summer movie season has officially started, thanks to the recent release of the latest film in the Fast & Furious franchise, Furious 7 . Like its predecessors, the action film killed at the box office, and to some critics' surprise, managed to garner great reviews along the way — meaning that an eighth film in the series is not a matter of "if," just "when." And seeing that the movie will likely be released in two years' time, the real pressing question is "who" — will Fast & Furious 8 star the same cast as its predecessors?

For the most part, it looks like yes. During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! a week ago, current Furious star Vin Diesel hinted at the franchise's next film, spilling details on plot (a new trilogy) location (New York), and, most importantly, cast. To the shock of no one, the actor confirmed that he'll be back for the next movie, but he also surprised viewers by announcing Kurt Russell, who played Frank Petty in Furious 7, will be returning, as well.

And while they're the only two cast members confirmed to return, several others are likely bets. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has said he'd happily be involved in future films (and perhaps even a spinoff for his character, Luke Hobbes), and newcomer Nathalie Emmanuel, too, has shown her interest in appearing in more of the franchise. In addition, stars like Ludacris and Jordana Brewster have both revealed that they'd be game for more films as well, as long as there's interest from fans — and judging by the reaction to Furious 7, it's safe to assume that garnering support for another movie won't be an issue.

Especially if, as rumored, Eva Mendes reprises her role as Monica Fuentes, last seen as a cameo appearance in Fast Five. Add in the (far-fetched) possibility of superfan Helen Mirren getting added to the cast, and Furious 8 could be a majorly star-studded affair. Cars, action, and Oscar-winning actresses: what's not to like?
