Drake wants to clear up fans' questions about that kiss he shared with Madonna at Coachella. You know, the one where she was a surprise guest for his performance and made out with him, prompting a taken aback reaction from the rapper. It didn't take long before fans began discussing and critiquing the kiss online, mostly because of the age difference between the two performers (she's 56, he's 28). Well, on Tuesday, Drake responded to criticism of the Madonna kiss on his Instagram by telling his followers not to misinterpret his reaction. He wrote,
Don't misinterpret my shock!! I got to make out with the queen Madonna and I feel 💯 about that forever. Thank you @madonna
So, Drake is setting the record straight about how he feels about the kiss. That is a good thing, but not for the reason some may think. This goes much deeper than some silly theme of "older women can get some action, too." As said before, many were critical about Madonna's behavior for her age on social media, but what people really should have been focusing more on was the subject of consent. Drake is, in a sense, reminding us what really matters — that he was ultimately accepting of the performance and the kiss even if it was not entirely what he expected. Sadly, it seemed like people were mostly freaking out about her age, which is a small factor in comparison to whether someone was actually alright with being kissed by another person, regardless of the gender of the person who is initiating the action.
Though Drake's reaction after the kiss, which seemed to show him wiping off his lips and covering his eyes, may have indicated otherwise, it sounds like he was OK with it. Also, he reportedly said later that he did not care for the taste of her lipstick. And now, it seems, he is saying he was also simultaneously in shock about the whole thing (which makes sense, Madonna and shock go together like peanut butter and jelly). We should take Drake's word for it, since he is really the only one who can speak for himself. And in the meantime, we should also be mindful as to why people criticized the kiss in the first place, because of Madonna's age, which was quite problematic and will hopefully be avoided in the future.
For her part, Madonna responded to criticism about the kiss in the most Madonna way possible. The singer took to Instagram to post an image reading, "If you don't like me and still watch everything I do. B---h you're a fan." As per usual, Madonna is not holding back on how she feels about the response either. Hey, if nothing else, you have to give her props for honesty!
