Cecily's 'Update' Character Should Def Do The WHCD
Cecily Strong is arguably the best part of SNL's 40th season (well, Cecily Strong and Kate McKinnon as Hillary, obvs). So when it was announced that Cecily Strong is MC-ing The White House Correspondents Dinner, the country let out a collective sigh, because she's a comedic genius and this event is in good hands. On SNL, her characters are always brilliant, always hilarious, and always so, so quote-able. It's hard to choose a favorite, from the drugged out model on QVC, to the One-Dimensional Female Character from a Male-Driven Comedy, but I think it's safe to say her best role is as the Girl You Wish You Hadn't Started A Conversation With At A Party from Weekend Update.
This is a role with an endless stream of hot nonsense and her slightly distracted, needlessly exasperated, extremely passionate, and definitely intoxicated vibe is just all around wonderful. While her lines are obviously exaggerated, this role is so loveable because we have ALL had similar conversations at parties with drunk people who think they know everything and clearly know nothing. Everytime the chair slides into view on Weekend Update and there's a brunette with a pink dress and a killer clutch, you know you're in for a brilliantly-timed comedy treat. So let's revisit all of those gems. Here are the best lines from Cecily Strong's Girl You Wish You Hadn't Started A Conversation With At A Party.
When She Shared Her Concerns About Ebola
Mmm, so true.
When She Decided To Share Her Crafts
Sounds correct.
When She Made This Her Ridiculous Go-To Response
Just like... DON'T.
When She Eloquently Brought Up Homelessness In America
It's a travesty, you guys.
When She Mixed Up Her Celebrity Tysons
I've heard the ear is considered brain food.
Or When She Shared An Authentic Cultural Gift
Awww. So thoughtful.
When She Discussed The Struggles Of Orphans
I mean, she's not wrong.
And Then This...
Geography is hard.
As Is Mental Awareness For The U.S. Population
Something needs to be done about this!
And This Classic Burn
RIGHT?
But Wait... Let's Take A Selfie.
Glorious.
If you had any remaining doubts about her ability to follow President Obama and entertain a room full of journalists and media professionals, I'm certain those doubts have been obliterated. But if not, here's her best one yet.
