'Sesame Street' Does 'Avengers: Age of Ultron’

by Aramide Tinubu

It seems like everyone is gearing up for Marvel's highly anticipated Avengers: Age of Ultron. The sequel to 2012's The Avengers will be released in theaters this Friday, May 1. I'm personally thrilled to see Chris Hemsworth, Idris Elba, and Chris Evans in all of their hunky glory. However, in an effort to get children excited to see the film and to promote healthy eating, Sesame Street parodied The Avengers in a spoof entitled, Aveggies: Age of Bon Bon. A comical title in itself, the amusement doesn't stop there.

Led by the constantly distracted Cookie Monster, this team of veggie superheroes is ready to wage war against the alien force who is attacking earth and turning all of the green leafy vegetables into junk food. Sesame Street has been consistently timely and on par with what's happening in the world. This super cute video is no different. While commenting on the mass success of The Avengers franchise, Sesame Street continues to remind children (and adults) about the importance of a healthy diet. Most importantly, the video is hilarious. Here are the top seven moments from Aveggies: Age of Bon Bon parody that make the video an absolute must watch.

1. The Faux Studio is Called "Crumby Pictures"

I'm not sure why this is so funny to me, other than the fact that my intellectual humor is equivalent to that of a five-year-old. The picture also sets the stage for the giant cookie ship that is to come.

2. The Villain Is Named "Bon-Bon"

Not only is his name absurd (but clever since it rhymes with Ultron), Bon-Bon introduces himself with this line "People of Earth, prepare to be deserted!" He follows that up with your typical evil cackle. He also just looks ridiculous. My assumption is that he's a piece of chocolate covered caramel.

3. The Zapped Veggies Look Like They Have Grey Hair

The diabolical Bon-Bon sends his giant cookie ship to Earth and begins blasting people's vegetables. His victims are carrots, broccoli and asparagus. This results in the veggies looking as though they have sprouted long grey beards. If you weren't excited about eating vegetables before, you certainly won't be now.

4. The Superheroes' Names

Our beloved Cookie Monster goes by Dr. Brownie in Aveggies. His superhero friends are Onion Man, Captain Americauliflower, Black Bean Widow, Mighty Corn and Zucchi-Eye. It really doesn't get much better than that.

5. Dr. Brownie a.k.a Cookie Monster Keeps Eating His Teammates' Weapons

Though he means well, we all know that Cookie Monster's attention span is abysmal at best. Forever distracted by sugary treats, Cookie often finds himself in a pickle. Aveggies proves to be no different. While waiting to attack the ship, Cookie imagines that Captain Americauliflower's shield is a cookie and Mighty Corn's hammer is a marshmallow. Much to the disgust of the other superheros, he devours them accordingly.

6. Dr. Brownie a.k.a Cookie Monster Reminds Zucchi-Eye That He's Useless

Apparently all of the superpowers were taken by the time Zucchi-Eye came to be. He doesn't seem to have any real power, and Dr. Brownie happily reminds him of that fact. He says, "Cucumber is cool, you're zucchini."

7. Dr. Brownie aka Cookie Monster Turns Into the Hulk

In turns out that Dr. Brownie isn't gobbling up everything in site just because of greed. In fact, he's using all of this food as fuel to turn into the Hulk and defeat the evil Bon-Bon and his giant cookie ship.
