9 Celebrities We Want To See At The Kentucky Derby

by Jaclyn Anglis

The Kentucky Derby, a world famous horse race held annually in the great state of Kentucky, is now reaching its 141st year. It's obviously worth a celebration! But as we all know, the Kentucky Derby is much more than just betting on (and possibly losing money over) certain horses and drinking mint juleps. It's really a perfect opportunity for all the celebrities who are even mildly interested in the day's event to come out and show off their best equestrian styles.

Some celebrities opt for more of a country-style look, while others prefer more of an old Hollywood glamour outfit. But no matter what they're wearing, the focus usually ends up being on a certain accessory — namely, their hat! And it's no surprise why. Wearing a hat at the Kentucky Derby is said to be a good luck charm. While it's fun to see what hats the typical attendees wear, it's always exciting to speculate what the celebrities will choose. And it is fun to watch which celebrities choose to make an appearance, since some come that you wouldn't necessarily expect, especially since the A-list attendeees always seem to bring their best hat game. On that note, how has Lady Gaga not visited yet? In any case, here's a round up of celebrities that we hope to see rocking their best headpieces at the event. Fingers crossed!

Miranda Lambert

If there's one thing consistent with past Kentucky Derbies, it's that Miranda Lambert shows up ready for the party with an ensemble worth of envy, hat included. Every year the country star has a brand new look, so we know she will not disappoint if she is on the red carpet this year!

Aside from being a name to be reckoned with in the country genre, Luke Bryan knows how to coordinate hats with his wife. It's a major plus, and a big encouragement for the gentlemen to join with their wives in on the fun.

As evidenced by this photo, she is obviously quite taken with her accessory choice of the night. Someone who was this openly enthused about their hat surely should not be excluded!

Dakota Johnson

At the 2014 Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic, the Fifty Shades of Grey star rocked this getup. And when asked what the sexiest thing is a woman could wear, she said, "I think the sexiest thing is a hat." It would only be fitting for her to be among other fellow hat enthusiasts!

Taylor Swift

Sure, Taylor Swift might not have made an appearance at the Kentucky Derby before. And sure, she's not country anymore. But remember how well she was received at the Academy of Country Music Awards this year? It might be well worth her time to revisit her roots again!

Carrie Underwood

She's one of the biggest names in country right now. Not only does she have several Grammys, some prestigious country music awards, and roots in the south, she also has a consistently flawless red carpet look. Her presence is a must!

Lady Gaga

As we all know, crazy hats are kind of Gaga's thing. (See above photo for evidence.) That combined with her ongoing embrace of her outdoorsy side makes this the perfect event for Mother Monster to attend.

Lupita Nyong'o

Believe it or not, the 12 Years A Slave actress didn't wear this getup to the Kentucky Derby, instead, she wore it to the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic in 2014. But this photo proves the fashion icon has more than what it takes to pull off derby style — or any style really.

Pharrell Williams

It's an event that celebrates hats for crying out loud. And as we all know, hats and Pharrell go together like peanut butter and jelly. How has he not made an appearance yet? It is long overdue. Let's hope this changes this year!
